DPT Titer Diphtheria Antitoxoid, Pre and Post Vaccination

DPT Titer Diphtheria Antitoxoid, Pre and Post Vaccination

This test will detect prior and post vaccination to these 3 diseases: diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus.

Diphtheria: is an infection caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Diphtheria causes a thick covering in the back of the throat. It can lead to difficulty breathing, heart failure, paralysis, and even death. According to the CDC Vaccines are recommended for infants, children, teens and adults to prevent diphtheria.

Pertussis: a respiratory illness commonly known as whooping cough, is a very contagious disease caused by a type of bacteria called Bordetella pertussis. These bacteria attach to the cilia (tiny, hair-like extensions) that line part of the upper respiratory system. The bacteria release toxins (poisons), which damage the cilia and cause airways to swell.

Tetanus: is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. When the bacteria invade the body, they produce a poison (toxin) that causes painful muscle contractions. Another name for tetanus is "lockjaw" because it often causes a person's neck and jaw muscles to lock, making it hard to open the mouth or swallow. According to the CDC vaccines are recommended for infants, children, teens and adults to prevent tetanus.
